Prepper Radio Canada (“we,” “us,” or “our”) is based in Quebec, operates prepperradio.ca and provides online amateur-radio education. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, how it is used and disclosed, and the choices available to you. We handle personal information under Quebec’s Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector and other applicable Canadian privacy laws.
Information we collect
- Account information: your name, email address, username, password stored as a one-way cryptographic hash, profile information and account preferences.
- Course activity: course enrolment, lesson progress, quiz and test attempts, scores, completion status and related learning records.
- Transaction information: the course purchased, price, coupon used, transaction date, payment status and payment-provider transaction identifiers. Payments are processed by PayPal. We do not receive or store your full card or bank-account details.
- Communications: information you provide when contacting us, asking for support, submitting a form or responding to a message.
- Technical and security information: IP address, browser and device information, login activity, security logs, cookie identifiers, consent preferences and information needed to diagnose errors or prevent fraud and unauthorized access.
- Website usage information: pages viewed, links used and similar interaction data collected through cookies or analytics tools where permitted by your consent choices.
How we use personal information
- To create and administer your account.
- To process purchases, apply coupons and confirm transactions.
- To provide course access, save progress, administer assessments and maintain learning records.
- To provide technical support and respond to questions.
- To secure the website, investigate suspected misuse and prevent fraud.
- To maintain, troubleshoot and improve the website and course experience.
- To meet accounting, tax, legal and regulatory obligations.
- To send service messages concerning your account, purchase or course.
- To send promotional email only where we have the consent or other lawful authority required by Canada’s anti-spam legislation. Promotional messages will include an unsubscribe method.
- If you separately and expressly opt in, to share your name and email address with specifically identified business partners for those partners’ promotional uses.
Consent and your choices
We seek consent where required and limit collection to information reasonably needed for the purposes described above. Any request to share your name and email address with business partners for their promotional uses will be presented separately and in clear language. We will identify the intended partners, the information to be shared and the promotional purpose when consent is requested. This consent is optional and is not a condition of purchasing or accessing the course.
You may withdraw consent for future partner disclosures, promotional email or other optional uses at any time by contacting the Privacy Officer or using an unsubscribe method provided in a message. Withdrawal does not affect processing already completed and may not apply where information must be retained for legal, security, transaction or course-administration purposes.
Personal information of children under 14
We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from a person under 14 without the consent of the person having parental authority or the tutor, unless the collection is clearly for the minor’s benefit and is otherwise permitted by law. A parent or tutor may contact the Privacy Officer to review, correct or request deletion of the minor’s information, subject to applicable legal requirements.
Cookies and similar technologies
We use necessary cookies to operate account login, checkout, security, course progress and privacy preferences. With your consent, we may also use functional or analytics cookies to understand and improve website use. You can review or change non-essential cookie choices through the consent controls displayed on the website. Blocking necessary cookies may prevent login, checkout or course features from working correctly.
When information is shared
Promotional sharing with business partners
If you give separate, express opt-in consent, Prepper Radio Canada may share only your name and email address with Canadian Preppers Network, Prepared Canadian, and Preppersmeet so they may send you preparedness-related news, course information, and offers. We will not share payment information, purchase history, or course-progress information with these organizations.
This consent is optional, is not required to purchase or access the course, and may be withdrawn at any time by contacting our Privacy Officer. Withdrawing consent will stop future disclosures but will not affect information already lawfully disclosed. Each recipient is responsible for its own privacy and electronic-marketing obligations, including identifying the sender and providing an unsubscribe method. We do not share the personal information of anyone we know to be under 14 for partner promotional uses.
We do not sell or rent personal information. We may disclose limited information to service providers that help us operate the website and deliver the course, including:
- PayPal and related payment services for transaction processing and fraud prevention.
- Website hosting, WordPress and learning-management technology providers.
- Email delivery, support, security, backup, cookie-consent and analytics providers.
- Professional advisers, government authorities or law-enforcement bodies where disclosure is required or permitted by law.
- A successor organization in connection with a merger, sale or transfer of the business, subject to appropriate protection of personal information.
Service providers receive only the information reasonably needed to perform their services and may be located outside your province or outside Canada. Information processed in another jurisdiction may be subject to that jurisdiction’s laws.
Privacy governance and complaints
The Privacy Officer is responsible for implementing and periodically reviewing our privacy policies and practices, overseeing safeguards and service providers, approving appropriate access to personal information, supporting privacy training where appropriate, and handling access requests and complaints. Personnel and contractors may access personal information only when they are authorized and need it for their assigned duties, and they must protect its confidentiality throughout its life cycle.
You may submit a written privacy complaint using the contact information below. We will record and acknowledge the complaint, verify identity where necessary, investigate the circumstances, request additional information if needed, communicate our decision and take appropriate corrective action. We aim to respond within the periods required by applicable law. If you are dissatisfied with our response, you may contact the privacy regulator identified below.
Retention
We apply retention periods according to the type of record and review them periodically. Account and course records are kept during the course-access period and afterward only as reasonably needed for support, learning records, security, disputes or legal obligations. Transaction, tax and accounting records are kept for the periods required by applicable law. Consent, security, access-request and complaint records are kept only as long as reasonably needed to demonstrate compliance, protect the website or resolve a matter. When information is no longer required, it is deleted, anonymized or securely destroyed, and backup copies expire through the normal backup-rotation process.
Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical and organizational safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the information, including access controls, account authentication, security monitoring, software updates and backups. No website or electronic transmission can be guaranteed completely secure. You are responsible for using a strong password, keeping it confidential and notifying us promptly of suspected unauthorized account use.
Confidentiality incidents
We maintain a process for responding to confidentiality incidents and a register of such incidents as required by law. If an incident occurs, we will take reasonable steps to contain it, reduce the risk of harm, investigate what happened, assess the risk and help prevent a recurrence. Where an incident presents a risk of serious injury, we will notify the Commission d’accès à l’information du Québec and affected individuals as required by applicable law.
Access, correction and deletion requests
You may request access to personal information we hold about you, ask that inaccurate information be corrected, withdraw consent for optional uses, or request deletion, de-indexation or transfer of information where an applicable law provides that right. We may need to verify your identity before completing a request. Some information may be retained or access may be limited where required or permitted by law, including transaction, security and legal records. You may also submit a complaint about our handling of personal information to our Privacy Officer.
Third-party websites
The website may link to third-party websites or services. Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies, and we are not responsible for their content or handling of information.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes in our services, technology or legal obligations. The current version will be posted on this page with its effective date. Material changes may also be communicated through the website or by email where appropriate.
